Things Are Changing For Me In 2025
And these aren’t just resolutions…
2024 was an odd year for me. It ended as it started, with me not being too social or energetic because I’d picked up a cold over Christmas, and was also bookended by me losing a vehicle. At the start of the year, I owned a Vespa GTS scooter, but it got stolen, trashed and then written off by the insurance company, then at the end of it I managed to wreck my car by not braking in time and running straight into the back of someone.
It was a year of seeing some of the thin margins that divide everything going to hell from everything going as normal. If I’d been a little bit quicker or a little bit slower on the brakes then I’d be talking about my near miss or not talking at all, if my foot had landed in a slightly different place at Roding Valley Parkrun back in June, I wouldn’t have gone flying onto the grass and twisted my ankle, and a few days later if my friend Arthur had cycled home by a different route or gone a little faster or slower along the way, he wouldn’t have been hit by the car that killed him.
Death and endings loomed over a lot of the year for me. Early in the year my aunt died, and along with the funeral, we had to clear out her house digging through box after box of memories that had been kept and stored away but now had no place left to go. It prompted a lot…
